Founder & Designer of Pentony
Meet Hannah
I've always had a thing for shoes. At one point, I think I had close to 50 pairs in my wardrobe!
In 2013, on my first trip to Europe, I completely fell in love with the footwear. Turquoise loafers in Italy, yellow wedges in Spain, sandals with wings in the Greek Islands. I'd never seen anything like them. I returned home with ten pairs of shoes, and more than a decade later, I still own some of them.
Fast-forward to 2024. While on a family holiday, I spotted a pair of shoes I absolutely adored. They were timeless, beautifully designed and, unfortunately, eye-wateringly expensive. I remember thinking, why should beautiful shoes feel so unattainable?
“Perhaps it had been in my blood all along.”

The idea
Later, swimming in the pool with my son, the idea for my own footwear label came to me.
As a new mum, I wanted shoes that made me feel confident, polished, and put together, without compromising on comfort or practicality. Beautiful, versatile designs that worked with my wardrobe, not against it. Shoes with personality, but without an expiry date dictated by the latest trend.
And then came the family connection.
While I was exploring the idea of starting my own footwear label, my mum told me about our family's history in shoemaking. My great-great-great-grandfather, John Pentony, had been a boot and shoe maker in Liverpool, England.
The name
I later discovered a business directory from 1901 listing Pentonys Ltd., a boot and shoe manufacturing business with premises and branches across Liverpool.
More than a century later, here I was, dreaming of designing shoes of my own. Perhaps it had been in my blood all along. And so, Pentony was born.
The name is also a tribute to my grandmother Joan, whose maiden name was Pentony. My Nanny was one of the great loves of my life, and someone I miss dearly. Being able to carry her name into something I've created means more to me than I can put into words.
